Tiffin-Seneca Public Library’s Winter Reading Program

The Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is offering a Winter Reading Program for all ages January 2 through February 29.

Patrons of all ages are asked to read five books this winter to win a prize. Babies, younger children and teens can pick up reading logs in the Youth Services Department.

Adult patrons can participate by picking up a reading log at the Information Desk. Adults patrons will receive a special edition Seneca County Digital Library calendar when they pick up their reading logs. Homebound patrons and those living in assisted living facilities can also participate by calling 419-447-3751 and asking Beth for more information.

After reading five books, patrons of all ages are asked to return the reading log to the Library to receive a T-SPL winter beanie.

All reading logs must be turned in by the end of the day on February 29 to receive the T-SPL beanie. Please visit www.tiffinsenecalibrary.org or call 419-447-3751 for more information.

Tuesday, Feb. 13, Fat Tuesday Pancake Dinner at Melmore United Methodist Church (Five Points parish), 6817 S. SR 67, Tiffin, at 5:30 p.m. “Farm to Table” with sausage from the Melmore Odd Fellows organization, maple syrup from Snavely’s Sugar Shack and Eshleman Fruit Farm apples homemade into applesauce and of course, pancakes and beverages. Paczkis will also be available. Donations only.

February 16 & 23 (5:30pm) Friday Night Supper & Prayer During Lent at St. Francis Spirituality Center, 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin.

Enjoy a simple supper (Vegetarian soup, salad, roll) at 5:30pm followed by a guided centering prayer practice. Suggested donation: $5.Registration required, one week in advance, by calling 419-443-1485 or email peace@franciscanretreats.org Do you desire more time away? Extend your time of prayer and reflection with an overnight stay at a reduced rate ($40 single/$65 for double; applicable for 1 night, a $20 savings)

 

Sunday, February 18 (2:00-3:00pm) Family Fun with STEM Series: Rocks, Minerals, Crystals & Fossils – Nature’s Treasures presented by Rob Ledwedge at Franciscan Earth Literacy Center, 194 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin.   

Rob Ledwedge, a lifelong amateur geologist, will take us on a deep dive into what rocks are and minerals are, where they are found, and how we use them. Once we understand the different types of rocks, we will focus on the minerals that make up rocks, exploring properties such as color, streak, hardness, and luster. Make sure to bring your favorite minerals to share with the group.

This is a family oriented program and includes STEM related experiences. Appropriate for children 8 and up and must be accompanied by an adult. Donations are welcome.

 

Saturday, March 23 (9am – 12pm) Oasis Day Mini Retreat: Anam Cara “Soul Friend” Retreat at St. Francis Spirituality Center, 200 St Francis Ave, Tiffin

This retreat is the third in a series of Celtic spirituality Oasis Days led by Sister Jane Frances, OSF. Using teachings from the late Irish poet, author, priest, and philosopher John O’ Donohue, Sister Jane will delve into the Celtic wisdom of love , spirit, and the body while exploring the concept of Anam Cara (the Gaelic word for “soul friend”). Come away to rest, renew, and continue the journey into the beauty of Celtic spirituality.

Sister Jane Frances Omlor has been a Sister of St. Francis for 61 years. A charismatic presenter, Sr. Jane loves to share the beauty and wisdom of Celtic spirituality and how it relates to Franciscan spirituality.

Saturday, March 23 (2:00pm) Family Fun with STEM Series: Banding Birds at Springville Marsh and Kelleys Island with Tom Bartlett of Tiffin at Elizabeth Schaefer Auditorium, 190 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin.

Tom, a Master Bird Bander, is one of the most accomplished bird banders in Ohio, and is known especially for his decades of banding operations of migrating birds at Springville Marsh in Seneca County, and at Kelleys Island in Western Lake Erie. His work has provided invaluable data to researchers studying the lives of many of the birds of Eastern North America. He is also known for his ability to humorously convey his love of birds through stories of his many experiences.

This is a family oriented program and includes STEM related experiences offered by the Franciscan Earth Literacy Center. Appropriate for children 8 and up and must be accompanied by an adult. Donations are welcome.

 

St. Francis Spirituality Center’s 2024 “Christmas 365 Raffle

 

Support the work of healing, reconciliation, and renewal while participating in a fun raffle fundraiser with cash prizes! Purchase a ticket to be entered into the raffle for a chance to win cash prizes valued between $200-$500! A winner’s name will be drawn on the 25th day of each month during 2024 beginning January 25th. There will be two $500 drawings on Dec. 25th. Dress, Right, Dress’ Relive the Night

Dress, Right, Dress will be hosting their Relive the Night event on Friday, February 16th, beginning at 6pm at the Chandelier Community Event Center. It’ll be a night of memories, dancing, and fun.
